Celebrating our clients at the 2026 Smiley Charity Film Awards

From powerful storytelling to real-world impact, this year’s awards highlighted just how effective charity film can be

This year’s Smiley Charity Film Awards once again demonstrated the extraordinary power of film to connect audiences with causes that matter.

These awards are a reminder that when charities tell their stories well, they don’t just inform – they move people. They build empathy, spark conversation and, crucially, drive action.

We were delighted to see that many organisations we work with were recognised this year, with two of our clients taking home awards.

Recognising powerful storytelling

Dravet Syndrome UK was awarded Bronze for its film What is Love When Living with Dravet Syndrome. It’s a deeply personal piece that captures the reality of living with a complex and often misunderstood condition, while keeping the focus firmly on love, resilience and human connection.

Born Free Foundation took home Silver for Wildlife Heroes: Episode One – Bereket Girma, a film that brings viewers face-to-face with the individuals working on the front line of wildlife conservation. It’s a compelling reminder that behind every global issue people are dedicating their lives to change.

While these films tell very different stories, both share a clarity of purpose and a strong emotional core that cuts through.

Why charity film matters

As we explored in our recent preview piece on the awards, charity film has become one of the most effective ways to communicate impact.

In a crowded digital landscape, video cuts through. It allows charities to show, not just tell – whether that’s the lived experience of a condition, the reality of a humanitarian crisis, or the work happening on the ground.

Done well, it builds trust and credibility. It gives supporters a clearer sense of where their money goes and why it matters. And it creates a stronger emotional connection than almost any other format.

Just as importantly, it’s measurable. From engagement and watch time to click-throughs and conversions, film plays a critical role in helping charities understand what resonates and refine their approach over time.

A wider moment of recognition

It was also encouraging to see organisations such as Dementia UK, Women in Sport and Cats Protection recognised for their work.

Together, the winners reflect the breadth of the sector – and the many different ways film can be used to tell important stories.

Looking ahead

The continued growth of the Smiley Charity Film Awards is a clear signal that charity film is no longer a ‘nice to have’. It’s an essential part of how organisations communicate, engage supporters and drive impact.

We’re proud to work with clients who are using film so effectively – and even prouder to see that work recognised on a national stage.

Congratulations to all the winners.
