Job summary
As our Midweight UX/UI Designer, you’ll be a key design contributor, owning the user experience from end-to-end. Your main goal is to translate client business objectives and user research into intuitive, accessible user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity interfaces for their websites and digital platforms.
Key duties & responsibilities
UX
- Plan and execute a variety of user research methods (e.g., user interviews, surveys, usability testing) to gather robust user needs and behavioural data.
- Analyse research findings to generate clear, actionable insights and translate these into data-driven user journeys and design recommendations.
- Define the core structure and interaction for websites by creating wireframes, user flows, and information architecture (IA).
- Map, analyse, and facilitate workshops to define the IA of websites, ensuring logical grouping, clear navigation, and optimal content findability.
- Facilitate UX workshops with clients to gather insights, align on vision, understand user problems, and co-create solutions.
- Create and test interactive prototypes (using Figma) to validate UX concepts early and iterate based on quantitative and qualitative feedback.
- Champion inclusive design principles, ensuring all UX solutions adhere to current web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).
- Document and clearly communicate design decisions to the wider team, maintaining living documentation for development handover.
UI
- Interpret design briefs, research findings, and wireframes into beautiful, suitable, and user-centric digital designs.
- Use Figma to create and adapt bespoke designs for new and existing clients.
- Implement accessibility best practices and understand different user needs during the design process.
- Design high-fidelity prototype static and interactive designs and client-facing tools for user testing.
- Collaborate with the wider design team and Project Managers to interpret the most relevant insights for each project.
- Attend and lead design meetings and presentations with clients.
Branding & Visual Identity
- Develop visual concepts and creative design ideas that align with the client’s mission and business objectives and audience
- Conduct and contribute to ideation and brainstorming sessions to define and evolve the visual language, mood, and tone of new client brands or rebrands.
- Produce initial visual mockups, mood boards, and key visual samples to clearly communicate the brand’s aesthetic direction to both the client and the internal team.
- Design and produce final, high-resolution visual assets such as logos and icons for seamless use across all digital platforms
- Ensure seamless and appropriate application of all developed brand elements (typography, color palettes, tone of voice) within the final digital interface designs.
Internal
- Accurately estimate and track time spent to ensure efficient project production.
- Stay up-to-date with best practices and the latest innovations in user experience, design, and visual communication.
- Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of the design system and internal/external design template library.
Person specification
Essential skills and qualifications
- A proven portfolio showcasing user research, wireframes, and the interpretation of insights into engaging designs.
- Confidence in conducting stakeholder workshops and presenting solutions to clients.
- Ability to understand user challenges and develop creative, user-centred solutions.
- A strong eye for detail and passion for creating high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative approach to projects and a positive attitude.
- Highly motivated, engaged, and possessing excellent communication skills.
- Curiosity to query briefs and challenge assumptions constructively.
- Proficiency with Figma is required.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop is needed.
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Familiarity with brand guidelines and experience applying them to create excellent visuals, with accessibility built-in.
- Experience in an agency environment is preferred.
- Experience working with charities or non-profit organisations is desirable.
