Fat Beehive Jobs - we're hiring for a Web Design Intern - 3 month placement

Do you want to spend your Autumn cleaning coffee grounds out of the sink and getting hit-on by creepy old Art Directors as they lean across you demonstrating their arcane knowledge of Quark Express 2 keyboard shortcuts? If so, feel free to look elsewhere. If not, we'd like to introduce ourselves.

We're Fat Beehive and we do web stuff.

We're currently looking for a savvy creative type, like yourself, who is keen to gain invaluable experience through a 3 months' internship in professional Web Design.

If you're successful you'll join a friendly, experienced, Shoreditch based team that includes: two full-time Designers; a Project manager; a Production manager, four Developers and a Sales team of two. (We don't actually have an Art Director - creepy or not). We'll value highly your creative contribution to the process of planning, designing and delivering engaging, accessible and user-friendly web sites to our clients in the charity, social enterprise and not for profit sectors.

It's likely you'll already be a trained creative type (possibly a recent Graduate) with a sharp eye and a bag full of great ideas, proficient in the tools of the trade (XHTML, CSS, Adobe Creative suite etc.). You'll probably already have designed and built some live sites, blogs or portfolio pages, or perhaps you're looking to make a transition from Print design into Web. You'll certainly be adept at visualising, communicating and developing your ideas within the team and sometimes on your lonesome - where you'll seize the initiative to shine.

Working alongside our two full-time Designers you'll get the chance to contribute directly to our projects in any of the following ways:

  • Attend/contribute to client meetings. These are often highly collaborative events where we welcome appropriate creative solutions from anyone on the team.
  • Join the Designers kick-starting the creative process by producing sketches, wireframes, paper prototypes, inspiration boards or research.
  • Liaise with clients and designers to collate site assets such as brand guideline documents, logos, images and fonts.
  • Create various UI page elements such as sprites, feature-puffs, and buttons from a verbal/written brief or brand guideline document. These will require you to work largely in Illustrator, Photoshop and then in XHTML/CSS.
  • Create page mockups and templates for internal content pages and/or landing pages based on existing home-page designs/styles.
  • Design and create HTML email newsletter/mailouts from existing style guides.
  • Help out with Browser testing and debugging site templates.

Aside from these real responsibilities and excellent commercial experience, some other perks of the internship include:

  • The chance of a permanent job at the end of the internship.
  • Paid travel and lunch (often from our BBQ).
  • Some free booze/non-booze on Friday night.
  • Weekly chair Massage (lucky chair!).
  • Regular Cake (see www.fatcakehole.tumblr.com).

If this sounds like the way you'd like to spend the next three months then let us know why you're the chosen one by sending a persuasive and seductive introductory communication to: interns@fatbeehive.com

Applications are open until Monday 30th August.

No agencies.
