Action and Awareness will End Violence Against Women

End Violence Against Women is a coalition of organisations calling for action to end violence against women in the UK. They are survivors, activists, service providers, and academics working together to influence public policy and awareness.

Their Vision: A world where women and girls can live their lives free from violence and the threat of violence.

To that end, their current goals include:

  • For violence against women to be understood as a cause and consequence of women's inequality
  • To raise awareness about the nature, extent and impacts of violence against women in the UK, and how it can be prevented
  • For the UK Government and devolved administrations to develop integrated and strategic approaches to ending violence against women
  • To share good practice across the UK and learn from the experience in Scotland where a framework is being developed.

The EVAW website is a meeting of minds. It brings together different groups with the common cause of ending violence against women, allowing them to pool their resources and work together much more effectively.

Keeping the site updated with relevant news, information, and documents is therefore very important. With the BeeKeeper Content Management System, EVAW can easily add, edit, and delete pages quickly and easily.

Providing information for women affected by violence is also a very important component of the site. Making this information accessible to all, regardless of physical or mental capabilities, or the technological capabilities of the equipment being used, is paramount. Fat Beehive's Accessibility package allows users to view the page in a text only version, in any browser, and also includes a text resizing option for the visually impaired.

EVAW have also taken advantage of Fat Beehive's hosting services for their site, which includes data backup, email and telephone technical support.

Working with an existing site structure is always a challenge, according to Fat Beehive designers, but can be "an interesting puzzle" to solve. Keeping the existing structure provides continuity for users and maintains the image of the organisation, while the new CMS allows administrators to update the site more easily. Everyone wins!
