The SEC-Brains, Business, and Building a Better World

Social enterprise is a business model which offers the prospect of a greater equity of economic power and a more sustainable society - by combining market efficiency with social and environmental justice.

The Social Enterprise Coalition represents a wide range of social enterprises, regional and national support networks and other related organisations. They influence politicians across the political spectrum, generating support for social enterprise. Political engagement has been the bed rock of the Coalition's work in promoting social enterprise and in pushing the issue up the policy agenda.

To most people, it now seems like common sense that a business would not only exist to make a profit, but to make the world a better place. The aim of the Social Enterprise Coalition is to do just that - make conscientious business a part of the greater subconscious. One of their key tools is their website.

When the Coalition began working with Fat Beehive, they were looking to create a warmer, friendlier page that welcomed and engaged the user. This proved a difficult but rewarding challenge for the site designers, who used colour, text boxes, and pictures to do just that. Working with the Coalition's existing branding, the resulting site is easy to navigate and the purpose clear.

Fat Beehive's Content Management System (CMS) includes a member's only area where organisations can log in and download secure documents, or upload documents to share with each other. News and Events features keep members up to date on government policy and current issues, while the Campaign section communicates social enterprise activities to the world.

By choosing to control their own content, the Social Enterprise Coalition can easily add, edit, and copy all the site content within any web browser or on any computer.
