The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust present a graceful new website.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust is one of the 46 wildlife trusts in the UK. Formed almost 50 years ago, it is dedicated to conserving, protecting and enhancing local wildlife on land, under the sea, on coasts and in rivers. HWT use their scientific knowledge, influence, expertise and enthusiasm to create a better future for the areas local natural heritage.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust decided to focus on the specific species of plants and animals being protected in their area, and to emphasis to the public the impressive number of reserves that the Trust run in the region.
From the Trust's large library we chose a number of key images. Using tight, dynamic cropping we increased the drama of these images to bring focus on the species involved, creating a striking front page on which the visitor can dwell.
To emphasis the number of reserves run by HWT, we placed a thumbnail image of a map of the reserves onto the home page of the site. This visually expresses the range and amount of reserves. An accompanying paragraph acts as a mission statement.
With so many reserves, the Trust generates much news and many events. To avoid the front page becoming unwieldy with this information we made use of a 'tab module' to display news, events and volunteering information on a concise home page.
The HWT website also features a shop, a password protected members area, a system to build slideshows, an image library and a discussion board in the members area.
