INTRAC overhaul website
1st April 2005
The International NGO Training and Resource Centre have launched their new site which features resource databases, conference booking and a wiki.
INTRAC are a non-profit organisation that supports non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) around the world with policy, research and training. INTRAC is particularly focused on organisational capacity building, civil society and participatory development.
The new website offers a wealth of information and systems including:
- a searchable database of publications by INTRAC and others authors which are available for purchase. Each publication has full details including a description, an extract and contents summary.
- a conference information section and online booking system with differentiated pricing.
- a training course information section and online booking system
- a searchable resources database - a free resource containing a growing number of downloadable articles and writings on a large range of subjects
- a searchable directory of Support Providers with the ability for these providers to add and update their details.
- a site-wide registration and log in facility, allowing ease of use for online bookings and purchases, and the ability to add & amend information in the Support Providers.
- a Wiki, the Praxis Interchange, which is an evolving, interactive hub that allows people to connect and share their knowledge of research and practice.
From the front of the site, specialist areas convey the INTRAC areas of particular interest in the INTRAC Arenas for Organisational Capacity Building, Strengthening Civil Society and Participatory Development. These arenas offer direct links to information within the INTRAC site, filtered for these particular areas. For example the Browse Publications link in the Civil Society Arena takes the user to publications related to Civil Society only.
The site also offers the use of the Lo-Band filter - a device intended to improve internet access to those in poorer countries.
"Loband allows access to Internet sites over poor connections with restricted bandwidth by reducing formatting and layout information, removing images, and compressing pages." - www.aidworld.org
