The Sustainable Development Commission
20th December 2004
We've had a busy time during December and early January working on, amongst others, The Sustainable Development Commissions' (SDC) website.
The SDC is the UK governments independent advisory body on sustainable development and is concerned with sustainability across all sectors including transport, energy and health. Chaired by Jonathon Porritt, the former director of Friends of the Earth, the commission has the ear of Tony Blair (UK Prime Minister), Rhodri Morgan (Welsh Assembly First Minister) and Jack McConnell (Scottish Parliament First Minister).
We inherited the website when the SDC asked us to work on both major projects and piecemeal alterations to the site. Our first project was to address a list of issues in the administration of the site - and all in a content management system that was unknown to us! The next project it to build a Low Carbon Communities extension to the site - read more here.
Working very closely with the SDC, we've made their site more easily navigable, we've amended the CMS to give more control over the site and we're moving the site towards accessibility compliance with the WAI standards.
We're happy to say that we will continue to work with the SDC making modifications and enhancements to the website, along with a couple of larger projects that will expand the site during February this year (2005).
Fat Beehive support and appreciate the work that the SDC does in highlighting sustainabilty issues and are proud to work with the SDC.
